MOLECULAR POLARITYFIELD NOTE 33 / 175
Is Propane (C3H8) polar or nonpolar?
Propane (C3H8) is nonpolar because its three-carbon hydrocarbon framework has no strongly polar group or persistent positive and negative ends.

Why C3H8 is nonpolar
Propane has a CH3–CH2–CH3 chain, with roughly tetrahedral bonding at all three carbons. Its C–C bonds connect identical elements, and the many weak C–H bond contributions do not give this small alkane a meaningful permanent dipole.
What to notice
Propane and 1-propanol have the same three-carbon skeleton. Replacing a terminal C–H connection with an O–H group changes the polarity far more than lengthening the carbon chain does.
Common questions about C3H8
- 01
What does the Lewis structure of C3H8 show?
The connectivity is CH3–CH2–CH3. Every carbon has four single bonds, each hydrogen has one bond, and there are no lone pairs on carbon or hydrogen.
- 02
What is the molecular geometry of C3H8?
C3H8 has a tetrahedral at each C molecular geometry. The 3D model shows representative bond angles of 111.7° and 109.4° and 107.3°. These angles come from the displayed model coordinates.
- 03
What is the molar mass of C3H8?
C3H8 has an approximate molar mass of 44.10 g/mol, calculated from its formula using abridged standard atomic weights. Natural isotope variation can change the last digits.
